After conducting a Moodle feasibility study of our own, DCCC has decided on a transition to Moodle to be complete by Fall ’12. We will be using MoodleRooms as our host, which has provided several extra features to the Moodle platform. Therefore, we will refer to our Moodle as MoodleRooms.
The school will offer three phases of training for faculty.
Phase One: Train and convert during Su ’11 to utilize MoodleRooms in all of their courses starting in Fall ’11.
Phase Two: Train and convert during Fall ’11 to utilize MoodleRooms in all of their courses starting in Sp ’12.
Phase Three: Train and convert during Sp ’12 to utilize MoodleRooms in all of their courses starting in Fall ’12.
As we move forward to MoodleRooms, it will be crucial for our training to address the transition from Blackboard. After attending the NC3ADL Eastern Regional Conference, I found a great presentation that shows the comparision between features you are familiar with in Blackboard and what they will be like in Moodle. To see that presentation, click here. This will show you a crosswalk between the two LMS’s (Learning Management Systems). Another great resource is the following Moodle guide book. As I have spoken with several other DL Admins across the state, switching LMS’s is never easy. But we want to provide as much support as possible to help faculty with the transition. Please feel free to share any concerns or best practices you may have during this process.
